Brainstorming: the dog days of parables

Beginning with Ordinary 15 and running through, oh, all summer, it’s parable season in the lectionary. What are you doing with your Ordinary Time this summer? Do you have creative seeds you hope to see grow? Do you need ideas? Do you have liturgical, symbolic, musical, decorational, or other ideas you want to bounce off a community planning worship together? Here’s a spot to talk about what to do with that long stretch of green paraments.

illumination: as if we are ready…

Submitted by Rev. Scott Cervas, Meadowthorpe Presbyterian Church

Holy God,
speak to us, as if we are ready to listen;
show us, as if we are ready to see;
and send us, as if we are ready to go and be and do.
Amen.

CTW: drawn together

Submitted by Rev. Scott Cervas, Meadowthorpe Presbyterian Church

Let’s gather…
to catch a glimpse of God’s vision for our lives and all of creation;
to witness the presence of Christ in this place and in one another;
to feel the Spirit of God moving around us, among us, and within us!
We are drawn together as a community
to give thanks, to be renewed, and to share our lives.
So let’s be drawn together now to worship God!

CTW: here in this place

A call to worship based on the hymn “gather us in” (we used it when the theme worked but the hymn did not).
Submitted by Rev. Teri Peterson, Ridgefield-Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church

One:      Here in this place, God’s light is streaming in.
All:      We gather in God’s light, to be light for the world.
One:      Here in this place, God’s wind is blowing.
All:      We gather—young and old, rich and poor, strong and weak—
to be renewed by the breath of God.

One:      Here in this place, God’s fire is burning.
All:      We gather to be set on fire with God’s love.
